Miriam Gay-Antaki
Miriam Gay-Antaki serves as an Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of New Mexico. Her academic pursuits are deeply rooted in understanding the intricate human-environment relations, particularly in the context of anthropogenic global climate change. With a keen focus on political ecology and feminist geography, Gay-Antaki's research endeavors aim to amplify the voices that are often marginalized in climate change discussions. Her work delves into the complex networks that span political arenas such as United Nations conferences and scientific entities like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). By analyzing these interconnected spaces, she seeks to understand their influence on climate policy implementation and the participation of women scientists and stakeholders in international climate change forums. Her research interests are broad yet interconnected, encompassing the human dimensions of climate change, political ecology, and feminist geography. In addition to her teaching and research roles, Gay-Antaki holds the position of Associate Director at the R.H. Mallory Center for Community Geography. Her involvement in this capacity underscores her commitment to integrating community perspectives into geographical research and policy-making processes. Furthermore, as a member of the National Academy of Sciences Engineering and Medicine Committee, she advises the U.S. Global Change Research Program, contributing her expertise to shape climate change research and policy. Gay-Antaki's work is characterized by a dedication to making climate change research and policy more inclusive and effective for underrepresented communities. Her efforts are directed towards ensuring that diverse voices are heard and considered in the global discourse on climate change. Through her academic and advisory roles, she strives to foster a more equitable approach to addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Her contributions to the field are not only academic but also practical, as she actively engages with various stakeholders to bridge the gap between research and policy. By doing so, Gay-Antaki aims to create a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of climate change, one that acknowledges and addresses the needs of all communities, particularly those that have been historically marginalized.
