Alicia Harlow

Expanding possibilities in the domain of psychology, Alicia Harlow serves as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Graduate Program at Russell Sage College. With a rich background that began with teaching English as a Second Language in Japan, Alicia brings a unique global perspective to her work. Her journey in academia led her to pursue a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, where she developed a keen interest in the intricate dynamics of career decision-making, cultural adjustment, self-esteem, and feminist identity development. Alicia's research is deeply rooted in understanding how individuals navigate their personal and professional lives, with a particular focus on the intersection of identity and societal expectations. Her work in feminist identity development explores how women perceive and construct their identities in various cultural contexts, while her studies on self-esteem and cultural adjustment provide insights into the challenges and triumphs of adapting to new environments. In addition to her academic responsibilities, Alicia maintains a small psychotherapy practice in Troy, where she applies her research findings to help individuals achieve personal growth and resilience.
