Hannah Gosnell
Hannah Gosnell takes a creative approach to solving problems in the realm of social-ecological transformations, with a particular focus on rural dynamics and land or water conservation in the US West. As a professor at the Earth and Environmental Sciences department at Oregon State University, she is deeply engaged in understanding the complex interactions between human and environmental systems. Her research is driven by a commitment to fostering sustainable practices that benefit both communities and ecosystems. Currently, Professor Gosnell is involved in several innovative projects that aim to address pressing environmental challenges. One of her key areas of study is soil health and its various drivers, which are crucial for maintaining productive and resilient agricultural systems. She is also exploring the social sustainability of the US beef industry, examining how it can adapt to changing environmental and economic conditions while supporting rural livelihoods. In addition to these endeavors, Hannah is actively researching climate-smart ranching practices in Northeast Oregon. This work involves collaborating with local ranchers to develop strategies that mitigate climate impacts while enhancing the ecological and economic viability of ranching operations. Through her research, she seeks to contribute to the development of policies and practices that promote sustainable land management and conservation efforts across the region.
