Michael Blackburn
Professor Michael Blackburn is conducting influential research on the intersection of music performance and education at Saint Mary's College of California. As a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Music program, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. Professor Blackburn earned his Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary's College and went on to complete his Master's in Conducting at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His academic journey has been marked by a deep commitment to both the theoretical and practical aspects of music. With a rich background as an international singer, Professor Blackburn has graced stages around the world, showcasing his vocal talents and contributing to diverse musical projects. His career has been distinguished by various roles as a music director and conductor, where he has demonstrated his ability to lead and inspire musicians across a range of genres. At Saint Mary's College, Professor Blackburn is at the helm of several vocal ensembles, including the Glee, Chamber, and Jazz Singers. His teaching portfolio is extensive, encompassing courses in piano, sight-singing, and ear training. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he serves as the Director of Liturgical Music, where he integrates his passion for music with his dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. Professor Blackburn's contributions to the Music program at Saint Mary's College are characterized by his innovative approach to music education and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
