As an Educational Specialist at the University of HawaiÊ»i at MÄnoa, he has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding and practice of language education. Originally hailing from New York, Professor Holden's academic journey began at Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Writing. His passion for language and education led him to further his studies at the same institution, where he completed a Master's degree in the Department of Second Language Studies. This academic foundation set the stage for his future endeavors in language education and research. Professor Holden's professional experience is as diverse as it is extensive. He has served as an English instructor in Japan, where he gained invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities of teaching English in a non-native context. His roles at the English Language Institute (ELI), HawaiÊ»i English Language Program (HELP), and Tokyo International University have further enriched his understanding of language education across different cultural and institutional settings. Currently, Professor Holden is pursuing a PhD in critical administration, a field that aligns closely with his research interests and professional goals.
