Dr. Patrick Hales is solving complex problems in the field of education by integrating innovative approaches to teacher professional development and educational technology. As an Assistant Director of K-12 Teacher Education and an Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership at South Dakota State University, Dr. Hales is dedicated to advancing the quality of education through research and practice. His work focuses on enhancing language supports in education and developing authentic assessment strategies that cater to diverse learning needs. Dr. Hales holds a B.S. in English Education from East Carolina University, where he first cultivated his passion for teaching and learning. He furthered his expertise with a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, followed by a Ph.D in Teacher Education from the same institution. His academic journey has equipped him with a robust foundation in educational theory and practice, which he applies to his current roles at South Dakota State University. With extensive experience in public school settings, Dr. Hales has served as a high school English teacher and a K-12 English as a Second Language specialist. These roles have provided him with firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities within the K-12 educational landscape, informing his research and teaching methodologies.
