Michael Pisaro-Liu

Professor Michael Pisaro-Liu is a distinguished faculty member at the Herb Alpert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts. Renowned for his innovative approach to composition, Pisaro-Liu is a guitarist and composer whose work is characterized by extended compositions interspersed with moments of silence. Over the past 15 years, he has expanded his creative horizons to encompass field recordings, electronics, improvisation, and ensembles with diverse instrumental configurations. Pisaro-Liu's collaborative spirit has led him to work with a variety of esteemed musicians and ensembles. Among his notable collaborators are percussionist Greg Stuart, the BBC Scottish Symphony, and the Grand Orchestre de Muzzix. These partnerships have allowed him to explore new musical territories and push the boundaries of experimental music. In addition to his compositional work, Pisaro-Liu is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of experimental musicians.
