

Karl Guillard
Karl Guillard, Professor Emeritus of Agronomy, has had a distinguished career in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture at the University of Connecticut. After years of dedicated service, he has retired and is no longer accepting graduate students or postdoctoral researchers. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut in 1979, followed by a Master of Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1983, and culminating in a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1986. Professor Guillard's research has been pivotal in advancing the field of turfgrass management, with a particular emphasis on soil and water quality. His work has significantly contributed to the development and evaluation of best management practices for turfgrass systems, ensuring sustainable and environmentally sound approaches to turf management. Throughout his career, Professor Guillard has been recognized for his exceptional teaching abilities. He has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching at the Undergraduate Level in 2006. His dedication to education was further acknowledged with the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Northeast Branch of the American Society of Agronomy/Soil Science Society of America in 2001, and the Teaching Fellow Award from the University of Connecticut for the academic year 2001-2002. Beyond his research and teaching, Professor Guillard has been an influential mentor and leader within the academic community.
