Dr. Steve Smith conducts research on functional training, motor learning, and performance, with a particular focus on enhancing athletic capabilities through innovative training methodologies. An alumnus of the University of Lynchburg, Dr. Smith has dedicated his academic and professional career to advancing the field of health and physical education. He earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Education, and Doctor of Education degrees from the same institution, showcasing a deep-rooted commitment to his alma mater. Currently, Dr. Smith serves as the Interim Dean of the College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling at the University of Lynchburg. In addition to his administrative role, he is an Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education, where he imparts his extensive knowledge and experience to students. Since joining the university in 1996 as an Adjunct Instructor, Dr. Smith has held numerous positions, including Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Head Golf Coach, reflecting his versatile expertise and leadership in the field. Dr. Smith's research interests are centered around the optimization of athletic performance through functional training and motor learning techniques. His work aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing athletes with the tools necessary to excel in their respective sports. His contributions to the field are recognized through his certifications, which include Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D), Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC), and USA Weightlifting (USAW) credentials.
