

Josh Elkins
Dr. Joshua Elkins is solving complex problems in military science education and leadership development at Shenandoah University. With a robust background in military operations and instruction, Dr. Elkins brings a wealth of experience to his role as a Military Science Instructor. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in K-12 Physical Education and Wellness from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 2011, where he was also commissioned as an Aviation Officer through the Reserve Officer's Training Corps. Dr. Elkins has had a distinguished military career, marked by his expertise as a Pilot-in-Command for the UH-60 Blackhawk and LUH-72 Lakota aircraft. His leadership capabilities have been demonstrated through various roles, including Platoon Leader, Flight Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander. These positions have equipped him with a deep understanding of military operations and the ability to lead and mentor future military leaders. At Shenandoah University, Dr. Elkins is dedicated to instructing MS1 Cadets in the ROTC program, where he applies his extensive military knowledge and leadership skills to prepare students for successful careers in the armed forces. His teaching approach emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership abilities, essential qualities for any aspiring military officer. Dr. Elkins is committed to fostering a learning environment that encourages cadets to challenge themselves and grow both personally and professionally.
