David Hymes

Professor contributing to breakthroughs in the understanding of ancient texts and intercultural dynamics, Dr. David Hymes is an esteemed Associate Professor of Old Testament at Northwest University. With a robust academic background, Dr. Hymes holds a B.A. in Psychology from Bethany Bible College, and advanced degrees including a Th.M. and M.Div. with a concentration in Old Testament studies from Princeton Theological Seminary. He furthered his scholarly pursuits by earning a Ph.D. from the University of Wales. Dr. Hymes has dedicated a significant portion of his career to international service, having spent 26 years as a missionary alongside his wife, Anna, in Japan and the Philippines. This extensive experience has enriched his teaching and research, providing a unique perspective on the intersection of religious texts and cultural contexts. At Northwest University, Dr. Hymes is known for his engaging courses in Old Testament and Intercultural Studies. His curriculum includes Old Testament History and Literature, The Book of Isaiah, History of Christian Missions, and Cultural Anthropology.
