

Ian Nolte
Dr. Ian Nolte conducts research on composition, film, screenwriting, and teacher education. As a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Marshall University, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his students. Dr. Nolte holds both an MA in English and a BA in Secondary Education English from Marshall University, demonstrating his deep-rooted connection and commitment to the institution. Before joining the faculty at Marshall University, Dr. Nolte dedicated several years to teaching English, Language Arts, and Reading at the Cabell County Alternative School from 2008 to 2015. This experience provided him with valuable insights into diverse educational environments and the challenges faced by students and educators alike. His work in alternative education has informed his approach to teaching and research, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and innovation in the classroom. In addition to his teaching roles, Dr. Nolte has been actively involved with Marshall University's National Writing Project. Serving as a tech liaison, Summer Institute facilitator, and youth writing camp director, he has played a pivotal role in fostering a love for writing and creativity among young learners. His contributions to the National Writing Project highlight his dedication to enhancing writing education and supporting the professional development of educators. Dr. Nolte's research interests are deeply intertwined with his teaching philosophy, focusing on the intersection of film and composition as tools for effective communication and storytelling. His expertise in screenwriting allows him to guide students in exploring narrative structures and developing their own unique voices.
