Dimitri Mawet
Professor Dimitri Mawet applies creative solutions to the field of astronomy, particularly in the study of exoplanets and circumstellar disks. He is a distinguished faculty member at the California Institute of Technology, where he leads the Exoplanet Technology Laboratory (ET Lab). This lab is a vibrant hub of research and innovation, bringing together a diverse team of undergraduates, graduates, postdoctoral researchers, engineers, and staff from Caltech's Astronomy and Physics departments, as well as the Caltech Optical Observatories and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The ET Lab, under Professor Mawet's guidance, is dedicated to the development and deployment of cutting-edge instruments for the detection and characterization of exoplanets. The lab's primary focus is on high contrast imaging and spectroscopy, which are crucial techniques for studying entire exoplanetary systems. This includes not only the exoplanets themselves but also the circumstellar disks and the dynamic interactions that occur during their formation and co-evolution. Professor Mawet's research interests are deeply rooted in exoplanet characterization and the intricate processes that govern their formation and development. His work in spectroscopy and high contrast imaging has significantly advanced our understanding of these distant worlds and their environments. By leveraging innovative techniques, the ET Lab aims to push the boundaries of what is possible in exoplanet detection and study. Supported by both Caltech and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the ET Lab is at the forefront of astronomical research, contributing valuable insights into the nature of exoplanets and their systems. Professor Mawet's leadership and expertise continue to inspire and drive the lab's mission to explore the unknown and expand our knowledge of the universe.
