

Kevin Murriel
Promoting sustainability and innovation in theological education, Dr. Kevin Murriel serves as an Assistant Professor in the Practice of Practical Theology and the Black Methodist Seminarians Program Director at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University. With a deep commitment to nurturing future leaders in the church, Dr. Murriel's work is centered on mentoring Methodist students, particularly those of color, to equip them for impactful parish ministry within Black congregations. Dr. Murriel's academic journey began with a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Emory University in 2011, followed by a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) from Duke University in 2014. His educational background has been instrumental in shaping his approach to practical theology, where he emphasizes the importance of contextual understanding and cultural sensitivity in ministry. Throughout his career, Dr. Murriel has held various ministerial roles, allowing him to gain firsthand experience in the challenges and opportunities present within parish ministry. This practical experience enriches his teaching and mentoring, providing students with insights that are both academically rigorous and practically applicable. In addition to his teaching and mentoring roles, Dr. Murriel is an accomplished author, having published two books that explore themes relevant to his research interests and professional experiences. His publications contribute to ongoing conversations about the role of the church in contemporary society and the unique challenges faced by Black congregations. Dr. Murriel's dedication to his students and his field is evident in his ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for learning and growth.
