Husam Najm

Dr. Husam Najm is an esteemed Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers University-Camden. With a robust background in both academia and industry, Dr. Najm brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his field. He is a registered professional engineer in three states, underscoring his commitment to maintaining high standards of engineering practice. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Najm honed his skills in bridge design at T.Y. Lin International, where he played a significant role in high-profile projects such as the Central Artery/Tunnel Project in Boston. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into the complexities of large-scale infrastructure projects and the importance of innovative engineering solutions. Dr. Najm's research interests are centered around the seismic behavior of structures, bridge design, and the use of concrete admixtures. He is particularly focused on evaluating the performance of cutting-edge concrete materials, including self-compacting concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete. His work aims to enhance the durability and resilience of structures, especially in seismic-prone areas. In addition to his research, Dr. Najm has made significant contributions to the field through his involvement with the AASHTO Load and Resistance Factor Design Specifications. His expertise was instrumental in developing a comprehensive report on the seismic analysis of retaining walls and buried structures for the FHWA-NJ Structures Bureau, which has been influential in shaping current engineering practices. Dr. Najm is dedicated to advancing the field of civil engineering through both his teaching and research. He is committed to mentoring the next generation of engineers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle the challenges of modern infrastructure development. His work continues to impact the field, driving innovation and excellence in civil engineering.
