Associate Professor at Pathology, Ohio State University6 Followers

Dr. Traci Wilgus's approach blends rigorous analysis with practical applications in the field of skin biology and cutaneous pathology. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her research endeavors. Dr. Wilgus earned her PhD in Molecular Virology, Immunology, and Medical Genetics from The Ohio State University in 2001, laying a strong foundation for her subsequent research career. Her research interests are centered around understanding the complex mechanisms involved in skin cancer development, wound healing, and scar formation. Dr. Wilgus is particularly focused on the roles of pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic pathways, which are critical in these processes. Her work aims to unravel the intricate biological pathways that contribute to skin pathology, with the ultimate goal of developing innovative therapeutic strategies. Currently, Dr. Wilgus serves as the Principal Investigator for a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIH/NIAMS). This grant supports her research project titled "Understanding the role of VEGF in scar formation," which seeks to elucidate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the scarring process. Her findings have the potential to significantly impact the field by providing insights into new approaches for minimizing scar formation and improving wound healing outcomes. Dr. Wilgus's dedication to advancing the field of skin biology is evident in her numerous publications and presentations at national and international conferences. Her work not only contributes to the scientific community but also holds promise for translating research findings into clinical applications that can benefit patients suffering from skin-related conditions. In addition to her research, Dr. Wilgus is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. She actively engages with students and trainees, fostering an environment of curiosity and innovation. Her passion for teaching and research inspires those around her, making her a valued member of the academic community at The Ohio State University.
