Lewis Claman

Lewis J. Claman, DDS, MS, is a distinguished Associate Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. His academic journey began at the New York University College of Dentistry, where he earned his dental degree in 1969. Driven by a passion for periodontology, Dr. Claman pursued further specialization, completing his Master of Science in Periodontology at The Ohio State University in 1974. Dr. Claman's career at Ohio State University commenced in 1974, marking the beginning of a long and impactful tenure. His dedication to education and research led him to achieve the rank of tenured associate professor in 1991. Over the course of 35 years, he was a full-time faculty member, imparting knowledge and skills to countless students. From 1998 to 2008, he served as the predoctoral director of periodontology, a role in which he significantly influenced the curriculum and training of future dental professionals. Even after retiring from full-time teaching in 2009, Dr. Claman's commitment to education did not wane.
