

Michael Rene Torres
Dr. Michael Rene Torres is an esteemed Assistant Teaching Professor of Saxophone and Composition at The Ohio State University, where he also fulfills the role of Area Coordinator of Composition. With a rich academic background, Dr. Torres earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in saxophone and a Master of Music (MM) in composition from The Ohio State University. He further honed his expertise with an MM in saxophone from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from Stetson University. As a multifaceted musician, Dr. Torres is deeply involved in the realms of performance, composition, and education. He is the visionary founder of the Columbus Ohio Discovery Ensemble (CODE), a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to the promotion and performance of new works. His commitment to advancing contemporary music is evident through his leadership and innovative programming with CODE. Dr. Torres is actively engaged in the broader saxophone community, serving on the Conferences Committee of the North American Saxophone Alliance. His dedication to fostering an inclusive musical environment is further demonstrated by his involvement with the organization's Committee on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility. Through these roles, he contributes to shaping a more equitable and accessible musical landscape. His contributions to the field have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award and the Greater Columbus Arts Council Composition Fellowship. These accolades underscore his impact as both a composer and educator, highlighting his commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement.
