Sandeep Mertia

Sandeep Mertia, Ph.D., is set to join the Stevens Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor in the Science, Technology, and Society program. His scholarly pursuits delve into the intricate socio-technical fabric that shapes digital futures and state mechanisms, with a keen focus on postcolonial and global South perspectives. His academic contributions have been featured in prestigious publications such as Economic & Political Weekly, The Fibreculture Journal, Public Culture, and Sarai. Dr. Mertia has played a pivotal role as the editor of "Lives of Data: Essays on Computational Cultures from India," a collection that explores the intersections of data and society in the Indian context. Additionally, he has contributed to the academic community as the Assistant Editor of the journal Public Culture, where he has helped shape discourse on cultural and technological studies. He earned his Ph.D. with Distinction from New York University, where his research was recognized for its innovative approach and depth. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed a B.Tech. at DA-IICT, laying the foundation for his interdisciplinary approach to science and technology studies. Dr. Mertia's work is not only theoretical but also practical, as he has actively participated in civic technology initiatives aimed at leveraging technology for societal benefit.
