Rachel Record is a dedicated student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where she is pursuing a major in criminal justice with minors in legal studies and Spanish. Her passion for criminal justice is deeply rooted in her childhood experiences and a strong desire to contribute positively to the rehabilitation and services for individuals within the criminal justice system. Rachel's academic journey is marked by her commitment to understanding and improving criminal justice policy and practice. Throughout her time at UMass Lowell, Rachel has actively engaged in various research projects and practical experiences that have enriched her knowledge and skills in the field. Her academic pursuits have been greatly supported by esteemed faculty members such as Assistant Professor Jill Portnoy and Associate Teaching Professor Walter Toomey, who have provided invaluable guidance and mentorship. Rachel's dedication and academic excellence have been recognized with a full scholarship to attend Suffolk University School of Law. Rachel aspires to become either a defense attorney or a prosecutor, with a focus on advocating for services and alternatives to incarceration. Her goal is to make a meaningful difference in people's lives and influence policy decisions that promote rehabilitation and justice. Her commitment to these ideals was prominently displayed when she was chosen as the student Commencement speaker for the virtual ceremony in 2020.
