Focused on real-world applications of architecture and sacred spaces, Gilbert Sunghera, S.J. serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy. With a rich academic background, he holds a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University, a Master of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin. His unique blend of expertise in architecture and religion allows him to explore the profound connections between built environments and spiritual experiences. Professor Sunghera's research interests lie at the intersection of Environmental Psychology and the design of sacred spaces, particularly churches. His work is informed by his design experience in Los Angeles, where he honed his skills in creating spaces that resonate with both aesthetic and spiritual significance. Currently, as an associate professor in the School of Architecture & Community Development, Sunghera is deeply involved in academic and practical explorations of sacred architecture.
