Linda Keen
Linda Keen, a distinguished professor at Mathematics CUNY City College, New York, NY, is renowned for her contributions to the field of complex analysis. Her research interests primarily focus on Normal Families, Extremal problems, and Schwarz' Lemma. With a passion for fostering academic growth and collaboration, Professor Keen co-organized the Student Complex Analysis Seminar in the Spring semester of 2006, alongside Professor Fred Gardiner and with the assistance of Professors Jun Hu, Yunping Jiang, and Nik Lakic. The seminar, held on Fridays from 10:30 to 12:00, was designed as an informal yet rigorous platform for both students and faculty to delve into complex analysis topics. It featured lectures on subjects such as Normal Families, Schwarz' Lemma, Extremal length, and Quasiconformal mappings. The seminar was based on textbook notes co-authored by Keen and Lakic, providing a structured yet flexible learning environment for participants. Aimed at students with a solid foundation in complex analysis, the seminar required the completion of a full-year course in the subject. This prerequisite ensured that participants could engage deeply with the advanced topics presented. Scheduled speakers included Bill Quattromani, Kourosh Tavakoli, and Donald Taylor, who covered a diverse range of topics, including Caratheodory's metric, Iterated function systems, Accumulation points of iterated function systems and non-Bloch domains, and Estimates on hyperbolic metric. Professor Keen's dedication to education and research is evident in her efforts to create opportunities for students to explore and contribute to the field of complex analysis. Her work not only advances mathematical understanding but also inspires the next generation of mathematicians to pursue their interests with curiosity and rigor. Through initiatives like the Student Complex Analysis Seminar, Linda Keen continues to leave a lasting impact on the academic community at CUNY City College and beyond.
