Jessica Barfield is a dedicated PhD student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where she is immersed in the College of Communication and Information, with a focus on information sciences. Her academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in environmental earth science, complemented by a business minor from Dartmouth. She further honed her expertise by earning a Master's degree in business from the University of Wisconsin, which has provided her with a unique interdisciplinary perspective. Jessica's research is centered around the fascinating world of digital voice assistants, with a particular emphasis on user preferences for voice genders and accents. Her work aims to enhance the human-computer interaction experience, making it more intuitive and personalized. As a graduate research assistant, she collaborates closely with Professor Dania Bilal, contributing to cutting-edge research in this rapidly evolving field. Beyond her research, Jessica is an active member of the CCI Graduate Student Association, where she has previously served as vice president. In this role, she has been instrumental in organizing events and activities that foster a sense of community and collaboration among graduate students. Her leadership and organizational skills have made a significant impact on the student body, creating opportunities for networking and professional development.
