John Edwards
John Edwards is a distinguished Professor of Wildlife & Fisheries Resources at the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University. With a robust academic foundation, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management from West Virginia University, followed by a Master of Science and a Ph.D. from Clemson University. His academic journey laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to wildlife conservation and habitat research. Before his tenure at WVU, which began in 1997, Edwards honed his expertise as a wildlife biologist with the US Forest Service. His role there involved extensive fieldwork and research, contributing to his deep understanding of wildlife ecosystems. He also served in a research faculty position at Clemson University, where he further developed his research skills and interests. Edwards' research is primarily centered on habitat relations and species selection, with a particular focus on the interactions between wildlife and their environments. His scholarly contributions include numerous publications on a diverse array of species, such as coyotes, red-headed woodpeckers, northern long-eared bats, Appalachian ruffed grouse, and American black bears. These studies have provided valuable insights into the ecological dynamics and conservation needs of these species. In addition to his research, Edwards is an advocate for promoting hunting heritage. He believes in its positive impact on society and its role in resource conservation. His efforts in this area aim to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern conservation strategies, fostering a sustainable relationship between humans and wildlife. Throughout his career, Edwards has been committed to educating the next generation of wildlife professionals. His teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning and critical thinking, preparing students to tackle complex environmental challenges. His dedication to both research and education has made him a respected figure in the field of wildlife conservation.
