Patrick Hanrahan

Dr. Patrick Hanrahan has expertise in computer graphics and is a leading figure in the field, known for his groundbreaking work and innovative contributions. Currently serving as the Canon Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Dr. Hanrahan has made significant impacts in both academia and industry. His pioneering work in the design of RenderMan at Pixar Animation Studios revolutionized the way computer graphics are utilized in film, setting a new standard for visual effects and animation. In addition to his work at Pixar, Dr. Hanrahan co-founded Tableau Software, a company that has transformed data visualization and business intelligence. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including three Academy Awards for Technical Achievement, the ACM A.M. Turing Award, which is often regarded as the "Nobel Prize of Computing," and election to the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Hanrahan's academic journey began in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he was born and raised.
