Andrew Wheelock

Professor dedicated to fostering understanding of jazz studies and percussion, Dr. Andrew Wheelock serves as an Assistant Professor of Music and the Percussion Area Coordinator at the University of Wyoming. With a profound commitment to music education and performance, Dr. Wheelock has established himself as an accomplished jazz drummer and percussionist, performing alongside various renowned artists throughout his career. At the University of Wyoming, Dr. Wheelock directs the Percussion Ensemble, where he not only teaches percussion methods and lessons but also composes innovative music for the ensemble. His approach to teaching is deeply rooted in his belief that music education should be both comprehensive and inspiring, encouraging students to explore their creative potential while mastering technical skills. Dr. Wheelock's academic journey is marked by a Doctorate and Masters in jazz studies from the University of Illinois, complemented by a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Michigan University. Before his tenure at the University of Wyoming, Dr. Wheelock honed his teaching skills at Lincoln College and Greenville University.
