Ehud Elnekave
Dr. Ehud (Udi) Elnekave, DVM, PhD, is a distinguished technical advisor and assistant professor at the Koret Veterinary School in Israel. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and PhD in veterinary epidemiology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he developed a strong foundation in the study of animal health and disease dynamics. His academic journey led him to the University of Minnesota, where he conducted postdoctoral research, contributing significantly to the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) research team until 2020. Dr. Elnekave's research is primarily focused on the epidemiology and evolution of zoonotic foodborne bacterial pathogens. His work aims to enhance prevention and mitigation strategies to combat these pathogens, which pose significant risks to both animal and human health. His expertise spans several critical areas, including epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, public health, zoonotic diseases, foodborne pathogens, and bacterial evolution. Throughout his career, Dr. Elnekave has published extensively on topics related to multidrug-resistant bacterial clades in swine and the emergence of multidrug-resistant clonal groups. His research has provided valuable insights into the mechanisms driving bacterial resistance and the spread of zoonotic diseases, contributing to the development of more effective public health strategies. Dr. Elnekave's work is characterized by a commitment to advancing the understanding of complex interactions between pathogens, hosts, and the environment. His research not only addresses immediate challenges in veterinary and public health but also contributes to the broader field of epidemiology by exploring the evolutionary pathways of bacterial pathogens. In addition to his research, Dr. Elnekave is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals. His dedication to education and research excellence has made him a respected figure in the field of veterinary epidemiology, both in Israel and internationally. Dr. Elnekave continues to collaborate with researchers and institutions worldwide, fostering a global approach to tackling the pressing issues of antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic diseases. His work remains at the forefront of efforts to safeguard animal and human health through innovative research and practical solutions.
