History
Arkansas State University was founded in 1909 as the Arkansas Normal College. The college was established to provide teacher training for the state's public schools. In 1927, the college's name was changed to Arkansas State Teachers College. In 1967, the college was granted university status and its name was changed to Arkansas State University.
