SLU's athletic teams compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The men's basketball team has won the A-10 regular season title 11 times and the A-10 tournament title 10 times. The women's basketball team has won the A-10 regular season title 10 times and the A-10 tournament title 11 times. The men's soccer team has won the A-10 regular season title 10 times and the A-10 tournament title 11 times. The women's soccer team has won the A-10 regular season title 10 times and the A-10 tournament title 11 times.

SLU's athletic teams have also had success at the national level. The men's basketball team has made the NCAA Tournament 25 times, including two Final Four appearances. The women's basketball team has made the NCAA Tournament 24 times, including two Final Four appearances. The men's soccer team has made the NCAA Tournament 17 times, including two College Cup appearances. The women's soccer team has made the NCAA Tournament 16 times, including two College Cup appearances.
