The University of California, Riverside (UCR or UC Riverside) is a public land-grant research university in Riverside, California. It is one of the ten campuses of the University of California system. The main campus sits on 1,900 acres (769 ha) in a suburban district of Riverside with a branch campus of 20 acres (8 ha) in Palm Desert.

History
The University of California, Riverside was founded in 1907 as the UC Citrus Experiment Station, Riverside. The station was established to conduct research on citrus pests and diseases. In 1954, the station was converted into a four-year undergraduate college, the University of California, Riverside College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. The college was renamed the University of California, Riverside in 1959.
In 1961, the university began admitting graduate students. In 1965, the university's College of Letters and Science was established. In 1972, the university's College of Engineering was established. In 1995, the university's College of Business Administration was established. In 2001, the university's School of Medicine was established.
