Overview
Utah State University (USU or Utah State) is a public land-grant research university with its main campus in Logan, Utah. The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accredits it. USU is Utah's largest public residential campus, with nearly 20,000 students living on or near campus. As of Fall 2022, it had 27,943 enrolled students, including 24,835 undergraduates and 3,108 graduate students.
USU offers 159 undergraduate degrees, 83 master's degrees, and 41 doctoral degrees. USU's main campus is in Logan, with statewide campuses in Brigham City, Tooele, the Uintah Basin, and 28 other locations throughout Utah. In 2010, the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah, joined the USU system becoming Utah State University College of Eastern Utah (USU Eastern). Throughout Utah, USU operates more than 20 distance education centers. Regional campuses, USU Eastern, and distance education centers account for 25% of the students enrolled. USU has 163,000 alumni in all 50 states and 114 countries.
USU's athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively known as the Utah State Aggies. They are a member of the Mountain West Conference. The American Council on Education has classified Utah State among U.S. universities with the designation "R1: Doctoral Universities Very high research activity" in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Utah State University is associated with 7 Rhodes Scholars, 1 Nobel Prize winner, 1 MacArthur Fellows Program inductee, 4 recipients of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, and 34 recipients of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
History
Utah State University was founded in 1888 as Utah's land-grant college. The Morrill Act of 1862 granted each state 30,000 acres of public land to establish a college of agriculture and mechanic arts. The Utah Territorial Legislature selected Logan as the site for the new college, and the first classes were held in 1888. The college was originally named the Agricultural College of Utah, but its name was changed to Utah State Agricultural College in 1894. In 1957, the college's name was changed to Utah State University.
USU's early years were marked by financial difficulties and a lack of qualified faculty. However, the college gradually gained strength and began to offer a wider range of programs. In 1909, USU opened a branch campus in Brigham City, and in 1911, it opened a branch campus in Tooele. In 1925, USU began offering graduate degrees.
During World War II, USU served as a training ground for military personnel. After the war, the college experienced a period of rapid growth. In 1957, USU's enrollment reached 10,000 students. In 1968, USU opened a new campus in the Uintah Basin. In 1972, USU opened a new campus in Cedar City.
In the 1980s, USU began to expand its research programs. In 1984, USU opened the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1988, USU opened the Utah Water Research Laboratory. In 1990, USU opened the Utah Center for Excellence in Science and Technology.
In the 1990s, USU continued to grow and expand. In 1994, USU's enrollment reached 20,000 students. In 1996, USU opened a new campus in Price, Utah. In 1998, USU opened a new campus in Ogden, Utah.
In the 2000s, USU continued to grow and expand. In 2002, USU's enrollment reached 25,000 students. In 2004, USU opened a new campus in Richfield, Utah. In 2006, USU opened a new campus in Moab, Utah.
In the 2010s, USU continued to grow and expand. In 2010, the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah, joined the USU system becoming Utah State University College of Eastern Utah (USU Eastern). In 2012, USU's enrollment reached 30,000 students. In 2014, USU opened a new campus in Cedar City. In 2016, USU opened a new campus in Tooele.

Sports

Utah State University offers a wide variety of sports for students to participate in, including:

Utah State University is a member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC). The Aggies have won 11 conference championships in football, 10 in men's basketball, and 11 in women's basketball. USU has also made several appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

The Aggies are known for their passionate fans, who are known as the "Blue and White." The Blue and White are always there to support the Aggies, both at home and on the road.

Student athletes at Utah State University have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics. They also have the opportunity to be a part of a close-knit community of student-athletes who support each other on and off the field.
