Wayne State University (WSU or simply Wayne) is a public research university in Detroit, Michigan. It is Michigan's third-largest university. History
Wayne State University was founded in 1868 as the Detroit Medical College. In 1881, the college merged with the Detroit College of Law to form the Detroit City College. In 1884, the college was renamed the Detroit University. In 1917, the university was renamed Wayne University in honor of James B. Angell, the president of the University of Michigan. In 1956, Wayne University merged with the Detroit College of Pharmacy and the Detroit Institute of Technology to form Wayne State University.
