

Bruce Owen
Professor making strides in research on viola performance and pedagogy, Bruce Owen is an esteemed Instructor of Viola at the School of Music at Loyola University New Orleans. With a rich educational background, he holds both a Master's and a Bachelor's of Music from the University of Cincinnati. During his time there, he served as a teaching assistant to the renowned Masau Kawasaki, which significantly shaped his teaching philosophy and approach. Further honing his craft, Owen studied at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria, under the tutelage of Hatto Beyerle. This international experience enriched his understanding of viola performance and broadened his musical perspectives. His dedication to the art of viola is evident in his active participation as a member of the James Carter String Quartet, where he contributes to the ensemble's dynamic performances. At Loyola University, Owen plays a pivotal role as the coordinator for string student chamber music ensembles. His commitment to chamber music extends beyond the university; he is the founder of Musaica, a chamber ensemble dedicated to presenting new and less frequently heard works.
