

Gordon Towell
Renowned for his innovative teaching in jazz studies, Gordon Towell serves as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Loyola University New Orleans. With a rich academic background, he holds degrees in music education from the University of Alberta, jazz studies from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Music Education from the University of Cincinnati. His comprehensive expertise in jazz is reflected in the diverse courses he offers, including jazz band, jazz combos, jazz history, arranging/composition, and improvisation. Professor Towell is not only an educator but also an active performer, collaborating with both national and international artists. His dynamic presence in the jazz community extends to adjudicating and conducting engagements across Canada and the United States. His contributions to the field have been recognized with the Distinguished Creative Productions Award from Morehead State University in 2001, underscoring his commitment to excellence in music education and performance. In addition to his academic and performance pursuits, Towell is a Selmer saxophones clinician, sharing his expertise and passion for the instrument with aspiring musicians.
