Steve Kroll-Smith
Professor Steve Kroll-Smith is a distinguished scholar collaborating on research in the field of sociology, with a particular focus on disaster recovery, American social thought, and the limitations of sociological concepts. As a Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), he has made significant contributions to the academic community through his extensive research and teaching. After earning his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982, Professor Kroll-Smith embarked on a career that has spanned several decades and institutions. Before joining UNCG in 2001, he served as a Co-Director and Research Professor of Sociology at the University of New Orleans, where he honed his expertise in the sociological implications of disasters and recovery processes. Throughout his career, Professor Kroll-Smith has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Contribution Award for Research in Hazards and Disasters from the American Sociological Society, an accolade that underscores his impact on understanding and addressing the complexities of disaster recovery. In addition to his academic pursuits, Professor Kroll-Smith is actively involved as a Research Coordinator for the Social Science Research Council's Project Katrina.
