Yi Zhang

Dr. Yi Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), where he integrates diverse disciplines to study complex mathematical problems. Since joining UNCG in 2017, Dr. Zhang has been a pivotal member of the faculty, contributing significantly to both teaching and research. His academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Louisiana State University, completed in 2013, which laid the foundation for his expertise in numerical methods and mathematical modeling. Before his tenure at UNCG, Dr. Zhang honed his research skills as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the University of Notre Dame. These experiences enriched his understanding of applied mathematics and provided him with a robust platform to explore his research interests further. His work primarily focuses on Numerical Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), Finite Element Methods, Variational Inequalities, and Numerical Optimization, areas in which he has made substantial contributions. Dr. Zhang is an active member of the Applied Math Research Group at UNCG, where he collaborates with colleagues and students to advance the field of applied mathematics. His research is characterized by a strong emphasis on developing efficient computational methods to solve complex mathematical problems, which has implications across various scientific and engineering disciplines. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Zhang is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring students.
